Super Reading

Kia ora Bloggers!

This week for reading we have been looking at our carbon sink our goal was make connections between other texts and general knowledge to expand meaning and pose questions, using more sophisticated texts. We read a text about soil, trees and ocean and then a poem  Talks about how the seas and forest are quite t used to be lush and healthy but not any more. for the create we had to make a poster with a sink and put carbon stuff in it then make a poster that had that we would take to a protest. so here it is;

On your poster what would you put on it?

In reading this week we have been looking about the downside of sitting down. I read a text about how sitting is bad, the text said that standing increases blood flow to the brain and heart. my design has a rolly chair  a  foot fidget so if you  get bored you can play. next we have an alarm clock to remind them to stand up and get the blood pumping and a computer to do some work. Here is what I made:

What would you put?

How can we be Champions of Peace Blog Post

Kia ora

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are a dove with an olive branch, a koru and a CND Symbol

These symbols represent peace because they mean new life, strength, peace, hope and victory.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because  I include the peace symbol and people being harmonised.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Mother Teresa. I thought this person was a champion of peace because she dedicated her life to helping people in need.

Mother Teresa

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

My Prayer book by lilykeenan

I enjoyed learning about peace because It gave me  a new understanding of peace to me and others.

I learnt peace is hard to achieve and it takes the whole world to get it.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by looking after other people and teach people how to show peace.

How can we be peacemakers in our community?

This week for reading we had to read a book about the girl that lived in Germany, and about the wall being put up between east Germany and west Germany, and how it is so different in west then east, in the east you had the secret police watching you and had to line up for hours just to get into the bank and the supermarket, our create task was to make conversation with your cousin so here is my create

Did you learn something?

Maths

Kia ora

This week in maths my task was to create a floor pattern that looks symmetrical, it had to incorporate 6 different shapes and 6 different complementary colours, The 6 shapes I chose are: square, diamond, heart, circle, triangle, moon and I wanted to add 7 shapes so the last one is cross. Symmetry is when you can cut a shape and it will look the same no matter what  and in each shape there are different amounts, some shapes can have one and others can 7. lastly translation is when you double the shape and make it look the same!

Here are the colours I used:

Purple, yellow,red, green,blue and orange

I made the floor like a checker board, by putting down the square and then putting the diamond onto them then I put the heart, circle, triangle, moon and cross and I  put them inside of the 2 shapes. here is what I made:

What shapes would you use?

Amazing Reading

Kia ora and welcome back this week we have been learning about identifying several ideas, discussing the author’s stance or purpose, and understanding relationships in the text. so before I went to a workshop we had to read a text called: How to fall, its about a girl who moves away and leaves her friends and dad and starts a new life, and she is not happy with her mum they fight and just don’t get along, and she has to watch her auntie roller derby. So we had to create a drawing with the why the author so here it is:

Next we had to make a diary about how maia was feeling so here mine is.

Have you done something like this before?

Poetry

Kia ora and welcome back for the last term we have been looking at different types of poems and what they might look like and we had to write one here are the different types of poem; List Poems, Limericks, haiku, biographical and we had to write 3 or more of each and the had to be different topics we had to put them on a slide,

The first poem we had to write was 3 haiku and we had to pick a topic to base it on and i picked food, winter and a holiday. And a haiku goes 5 7 5  the first line was 5 syllables, then the second line was 7 syllables and the last line had 5 syllables.

Next we learnt about, biographical and you had to pick someone or a famous person and you have to write about them, The first line is there name, the next line is three adjectives that describes that person, then important relationships, two or three things, people or ideas that the person loves, next line three feeling the have experience, next line accomplishments, things that they wanted to see or experience, and last line is last name.

Thirdly we did limericks the first the second and  fifth lines the end words have to rhyme and 3 and 4 have to rhyme as well.

Lastly we have a list poem so you pick a topic  and you have to do 8 lines. for example say you do food, you say cheese and then you say things that you like about it. and you have to do 8 lines.

and now I have made a slide show of all the poems

Have you ever done one of these poems before?

Spectacular Science

Kia ora welcome back to my blog this week we have been doing  Science. We have been looking at the different types of  Electricity. Today we did an experiment about circuits and battery power. The materials we used were.

  • T beaker
  • S beaker
  • speciman jar
  • zinc nails
  • copper nails
  • water
  • salt that had sodium and chloride ions
  • buzzer with metal  clips

Our hypothesis was that the buzzer would make a noise when we put the salt in. In  conclusion  me and my group were right.

If you had done it right then it would make  a siren noise and if you did it wrong it wouldn’t make a noise.

First we filled up the  T beaker with tap water  and then put 3/4 of water in the speciman jar.  Then we  attached the buzzer with the clips holding on to the nails. If you did two of the same nails it wouldn’t work. It would work if you used two different nails and it would make a high pitched noise.

This is what it looked like.

It worked because the sodium and chloride  separated and made the high pitched noise.

Something I found challenging was making the experiment work.

Something I found interesting is that I never realised how much we all use energy and electricity in our everyday life.

Have you ever done a science experiment before?

amazing Maths

Kia ora and welcome back this week we have been looking at  food for the midwinter breakfast so we had options was, Hot cakes, hot chocolate, porridge and sausage sizzle we had to spin a wheel 45 times and see what the outcome was, here is the outcome hot cakes 11, hot chocolates 16, Sausage sizzle 5, Porridge 12, so hot chocolate was the favourite, then we had to graph it. Here is my create.

What is your favourite food out the four options?
